Clitoral System

I can’t say I ever thought much about my clitoris let alone it being a system. As long as I was having an orgasm, who cares, right? Well, after watching Betty Dodson draw the internal clitoris I had that experience of omg ” I didn’t know what I didn’t know” I didn’t know I had a clitoral system with layers that I can’t even see.

Then I got mad. How I am just learning about this now? This is crucial information vital to my sexual pleasure. So I am sharing this knowledge about the clitoral system starting with the PC muscle, then the internal clitoris and lastly the anatomy of the vulva.

The Pelvic Floor Muscles

We have many pelvic floor muscles & one of their functions is to keep our internal organs from prolapsing( falling out between or legs) However they also play a crucial role in our orgasmic pleasure.

The pubococcygeus (PC) is the most famous of these muscles. When we consciously contract the PC muscle (Kegel’s exercise) it stops the flow of urine, and encourages blood flow to this region. It also indirectly stimulates our clitoris(our primary sex organ). So when the PC muscle is contracted and release repetitively it enhances our orgasm and urination control.

The Internal Clitoris

This layer we can feel, however, not see. The internal clitoris is like a wish bone with its legs attaching to pelvis under the outer lips. The bulbs are located under the inner lips of the vulva. The clitoral glans and her shaft are at the top of the wishbone & attached to the pelvis by a ligament.  The perineal sponge (between the vagina and anus) & the urethral sponge (surrounds the urethra) are also part of the clitoral system.

The clitoral system contains as much erectile tissue (see pink areas of diagram) as the male system. So when we become aroused say through a vulva massage, the clitoral system becomes engorged as it fills with blood. Arousal is all about the erectile tissue filling with blood. https://www.dodsonandross.com/bettydrawsinternalclitoris

The Vulva

The vulva is the outer genitalia including the mons pubis, inner & outer labia, the clitoral hood, clitoris, urethra, and vagina.

The hood protects the clitoris. The clitoris has over 8 – 10 thousand nerve ending and is the females primary sex organ. The inner labia can also be very sexually sensitive. For some women they find the outer labia, inguinal crease, mons pubis also sexually sensual.
